Photograph wild birds of the Yorkshire Dales with wildlife photographer Paul Miguel. Capture close up images of Red Grouse, Curlew and Golden Plover on Swaledale's wild heather moors.
Swaledale is the ideal location for this bird photography course in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The heather moorland is home to large populations of red grouse which can easily be photographed from the roadside. Curlew, lapwing, oystercatcher and golden plover also provide opportunities for wildlife images amidst the heather and bilberry. During early spring, the evocative calls of upland birds fill the air: male grouse call with oustretched necks; curlews bubble on on fluttering wings and lapwings utter their pee-wit call as they climb and tumble above the moor. August brings a stunning carpet of heather - perfect for capturing red grouse and providing colourful bird portraits.
These photography workshops are limited to just two people. Tuition will be given on exposure; lighting; shutter speeds and apertures along with techniques for focussing and composition. We start early in the day to make the most of the light as morning is often the most magical time for nature photography. We use the car as a hide, which can lead to very close encounters. With constant shelter we don't need to worry about the weather - in fact, a rain shower can provide some of the most intresting wildlife photos!

We will break for a filling Yorkshire lunch in Reeth where we can review and discuss our images. The afternoon will see us back up on the moors of Swaledale or at a nearby location for further bird photography.
