SEABIRD PORTRAITS

Photograph spectacular seabirds at Bempton Cliffs with wildlife photographer Paul Miguel. Capture Gannets, Guilemots and Razorbills above the stunning cliffs of the East Yorkshire coast.

This photography workshop concentrates on the bird life at Bempton cliffs, the only mainland breeding colony of the gannet. Home to literally thousands of seabirds, these cliff tops are the ideal viewpoint to photograph the masses of breeding birds. Gannets will be our main target; situated at the same height we will photograph clear portraits against the ocean backdrop and capture stunning flight shots! Guilemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and occasional puffins can also be photographed, along with stiff winged fulmars that patrol the skies.

We will start the day over coffee before finding the best locations along the cliffs. Tuition will be given on exposure control, shutter speed, composition and focussing technique. Flight photography is particularly difficult to master so we will spend plenty of time looking at the best techniques for sharp images of birds in flight.

The workshop includes a session at a bird feeding station to photograph linnet and trees sparrow. We wil take a break for lunch at the excellent White Horse pub where we can review and discuss our images. On days when the light is good, there will also be the added option of staying later into the evening - at no extra cost. This can often provide stunning skies as the sun drops below the coastline.

Further feedback will be given after the course via email.
