SUMMMER LANDSCAPES

Wild flowers and fields of colour...

Photograph the spectacular scenery of Swaledale with professional landscape photographer Paul Miguel. From bright buttercup meadows to stone walls and barns, Swaledale is classic Yorkshire scenery.

On this landscape course you'll photograph some of the most distinctive scenery in the Yorkshire Dales - a mixture of limestone walls and barns amidst the winding green valleys. Gunnerside and Thwaite provide classic views of the Yorkshire Dales with many barns dotted around the steep hillsides. During June the wild flower meadows at Muker explode in colour - with buttercup, knapweed and clover creating a stunning sea of yellow and purple. Higher up the valley, the waterfalls near Keld offer more intimate scenes of the landscape with close up views of tumbling water crashing over glistening limestone rocks.

After an introduction over coffee we will set out to visit three locations during the day, working with the weather to make the most of each location. Brighter conditions are perfect for wide landscapes of the valley and this will give us the opportunity to look at composition, lighting and how to use filters to best effect. Overcast weather is ideal for Swaledale's waterfalls including Wain Wath, Kisdon and East Gill Force. Again we will pay great attention to composition; we will also experiment by varying shutter speeds for moving water and look at how the histogram can help with exposure. Tuition will be given on aperture and shutter speed combinations; composition; focussing - and more... After a day photographing the Swaledale landscape you will have a much better understanding of how to use different camera settings .

Photographers of all levels are welcome: beginners willl benefit from the use of semi-automatic modes, whilst more experienced photographers can experiment with manual settings. A tripod is very useful on these workshops; it will keep your images sharp and also make composing and reviewing images much easier. If you don't own a tripod, then one can be provided.

We wil break for a hearty Yorkshire lunch in Swaledale, where we can review and discuss images. On days when the light is good, there will be the added option of staying later into the evening - at no extra cost. Further feedback will be given after the course via email.
