ATMOSPHERIC IMAGES OF THE YORKSHIRE DALES

Spend a day in Ribblesdale with professional landscape photographer Paul Miguel and capture the wildness of the Yorkshire Dales.

Ribblesdale is one of the more isolated of Yorkshire's Dales, filled with iconic landmarks. The undulating land, scattered with limestone outcrops, provides truly wild and distinctive landscapes. The fells of Pen-y-Ghent and Ingleborough offer dramatic landscape scenery as do the classic limestone pavements at Ribblehead. Lower down the valley, the waterfalls at Stainforth provide powerful images of the River Ribble as it flows beneath attractive woodland.

After an introduction over coffee, we will set out to visit three locations during the day. We will work with the weather to make the most of each location. Brighter conditions are better for wider landscape shots and this will give us the opportunity to look at composition, lighting and how to use filters to best effect. Overcast weather is ideal for photographing waterfalls and creating images with a more moody appeal. We will also look at exposure compensation and see how the histogram can be used effectively. Tuition will be given on aperture and shutter speed combinations; composition; focussing - and more... After photographing Ribblesdale's landscape you will have a much better understanding of how to use camera settings and how to approach different landscape scenes.

Photographers of ability are welcome: less experienced photogaphers will learn how to use semi-automatic modes, whilst those more familiar with their camera can use more manual settings. A tripod is ideal on these workshops; not only will it keep your pictures pin sharp but it is also makes the composing and reviewing of images much easier. If you don't have a tripod, then one can be provided.

We wil break for lunch at a pub/cafe in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, where we can review and discuss images. On days when the light is good, there will be the added option of staying later into the evening - at no extra cost. Further feedback will be given after the course via email.
