Limestone pavements...

DISTINCTIVE YORKSHIRE DALES SCENERY

Photograph the iconic landscape of Malhamdale with professional photographer Paul Miguel.

On this landscape photography course we photograph some of the most inspiring and dramatic scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. The gentle waters of Malham Beck flow through the quaint village of Malham, less than a mile away from the imposing limestone cliff at Malham Cove. To the east lies Gordale Scar - a true wilderness of steep sided hillsides and jumbled limestone rocks. The vibrant woodland around Gordale Beck drips with spring colour whilst the steep waterfall at Janets Foss tumbles down into a tranquil natural pool.

After an introduction over coffee, we will set out to visit three locations. We will work with the weather to make the most of each location. Brighter conditions are ideal for wide landscape shots at Malham Cove and this will give us the opportunity to look at composition, lighting and how to use filters to best effect. More overcast weather is ideal for woodland scenes at Janets Foss: again we will pay great attention to composition; we will also experiment at the waterfall by varying shutter speeds for moving water and look at how the histogram can be a useful tool. Tuition will be given on aperture and shutter speed combinations; composition; focussing - and more... After this Malham photography course you will have a much better understanding of camera settings and how to approach different landscape scenes.

Photographers of all levels are welcome on these workshops: less experienced photogaphers will be able to look at semi-automatic modes, whilst experienced shooters are encourage to use manual settings. A tripod is particularly useful on these courses; not only does it ensure pin sharp photos, but it is also makes the composing and reviewing of images much easier. If you don't have a tripod, one can be provided on the day.

We wil break for a filling Yorkshire lunch at the Old Barn Cafe, where we can review and discuss our images. On days when the light is good, there will also be the added option of staying later into the evening - at no extra cost; this may include landscape photography around Malham Tarn. Further feedback will be given after the course via email.
